Just 15 miles from Seattle, the city of Bremerton is drawing people who want to live near Seattle, but don’t want to pay its housing prices. Residents are not settling for less when they choose Bremerton over its bigger neighbor. With incredible outdoor recreation opportunities and a growing cultural scene, people are discovering how much this small city across Puget Sound has to offer.

Bremerton, population 39,500, is located on the Kitsap Peninsula. Situated between the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, the views from the city are hard to beat. Its location on a protected harbor also means that the city of Bremerton has long had ties with the US Navy. Today, Naval Base Kitsap is the largest employer in the area and the Puget Sound Navy Museum and USS Joy are popular attractions.

Housing prices are a major reason for people moving to Bremerton. The median listing price for homes is $384,750, about half the cost of homes in Seattle. Living in Bremerton and working in Seattle is doable, especially when using the ferry system. The standard ferry ride is about an hour and a commute on the fast ferry is only 30 minutes.   • Madrona Point is a residential community just outside of Bremerton. This neighborhood is on a peninsula and has beautiful water and mountain views.
  • Bremerton Junction offers affordable single-family homes near the beautiful city-owned Gold Mountain Golf Club. 
  • Manette is a charming area of east Bremerton, accessible by the Manette Bridge. This bridge is a popular route for bike riders and walkers who want to enjoy a beautiful sunset or the waters of the Port Washington narrows. Unique dining and shopping options also draw people to Manette.
  • Sheridan Park has some waterfront areas, located on the Point Washington Narrows. It is home to the Sheridan Park Community Center and Stephenson Canyon natural area.
